Pipette(also pipet, pipettor or chemical dropper): It is a laboratory instrument used to transport a measured volume of liquid. Pipettes come in several different designs for various purposes with differing levels of accuracy and precision, from single glass pipettes to more complex adjustable or electronic pipettes. The most precise and accurate type of pipette, they operate by piston-driven air displacement. There are many other pipettes such as the positive displacement pipette, the vacuum assisted pipettes, the volumetric pipettes and the graduated pipettes.

Burette(also buret): It is a vertical cylindrical piece of laboratory glassware with a volumetric graduation on it's full length and a precision tap, or stopcock on the bottom. It is used to dispense known amounts of a liquid reagent in experiments for which such precision is necessary, such as a titration experiment. Burettes are extremely accurate. Burettes measure from the top since they are used to measure liquids dispensed out the bottom. The difference between starting and final volume is the amount dispensed.

Measuring Cylinders(also graduated cylinders): It is a piece of laboratory equipment used to accurately measure the volume of an object. Water displacement can be used to find out the volume of an object. Measuring cylinders are generally more accurate and precise for this purpose than flasks or beakers. Often, the largest measuring cylinders are made of polypropylene for it’s excellent chemical resistance or polymethylpentene for it’s clarity, making them lighter to ship and less fragile than glass. Polypropylene cylinders have excellent chemical resistance and do not shatter when dropped. The only flaw with this type of cylinder is that it cannot be heated. Polypropylene is easy to repeatedly autoclave (sterilize); however autoclaving of some polypropylene measuring cylinders may affect their accuracy.

When measuring something, units must be clearly stated. For example when we measure something with a rubber band, state whether the rubber band used is BIG, small or medium. This is extremely important as just stating the number of rubber bands is extremely vague.

However, we do not use rubber bands to measure items often. We use measurements.

There are two basic systems for measurement.

The International System of Units:
S.I. measurements, also known as Systeme International D'unites, is generally a system of units of measurement devised around seven base units and the convenience of the number ten. It is the world's most widely used system of measurement, both in everyday commerce and in science.

Imperial Units:
The Imperial Units or Imperial system is a system of units, first defined in British Weights and Measures Act in 1824, later refined and reduced. It was used in the British Empire and in countries in the British sphere of influence.

me

Who am I?
I am Kimberley Lim.
kaye-eye-am-bee-ee-arr-ell-ee-wyy *space* ell-eye-am.

You may think I'm crazy,
but there's nothing wrong with me,
or my name.
FUN FACT about my name(Kimberley):
my name is the name of a state in Australia! (:

loves & hates

Everything is about simplicity.
It's just that simple.
It's just a matter of how you look at things.
That's when things can become from simple to complicated.

What I love is fairly simple.
Doing well in exams is what i love the most.
In this world,
doing well in academics might guarantee a good job.
that's why i strive to do well.
i may not be the best,
but at least I'm making full use of my abilities.
Other than that,
there's nothing I love more than
GOD, family and friends.
They're what makes my life oh-so-colourful.
travelling, photography, playing harp,
reading DARK romance novels, playing video games/computer games are
my passions.
it's what i'll do for now to relieve myself from the world of academics when i need it.
What I hate, is even simpler. What's the opposite of doing well for exams? Doing badly for exams! it's as simple as that.

desires

what i want is what i love.
simple eh?

but there's nothing more that i want
than being able to
travel around the world
and bring back the memories
and wonders of the world
when i grow up.
that's all i ever want for my future.
